Pirates once sought refuge on this remote island and Holland America has kept that tradition alive. Only 45 of the island's 2,400 acres are developed assuring all visitors that this stop will be truly a refuge from the world. The focus, of course, is the beach. Passenger's intent on spending a day of shopping or wandering the halls of a museum best remain onboard. But if you're interested in a relaxing, carefree, stress-free vacation day, this island has your name on it.
For the energetic, there's a marked nature trail, volleyball, shuffleboard, horseshoes, basketball, tug-of-war contests, swimming, snorkeling, SCUBA diving, kayaking, windsurfing, parasailing, paddle boating, "banana" boating, sailing, jet skiing, and even a deep-sea fishing expedition or a glass bottom boat ride. For the not-so energetic, there's a place in the sun or a hammock in the shade. For the spiritual, there's a small chapel. For the thirsty, a couple of thirst quenching bars. For the hungry, a food pavilion and an ice-cream shop. There's even a small shopping arcade for the incurable shopper
